Margaret Summer

About Margaret

  • Year first licensed in Real Estate: 2010
  • Prior occupation: Small business owner
  • Educational accomplishments: Learning English upon arrival in USA, obtaining my Citizenship, real estate license in NJ, completing FNI finance platform (fellow of the Nautical Institute), few real estate certifications like SFR, RPR, PSA, also completed 24 Pre-Broker course.
  • Personal and/or professional accomplishments: 1987 was the year I made the most difficult and most frightening decision of my life. Without any family or even basic English I came to “the land of opportunity” and everything after has been exactly that. In 2004 as an immigrant and a woman I established a small but successful business and I enjoyed it for 16 years. I made a lot of great friendships and raised 3 kids. Life is Good!
  • Awards/recognitions received: Sales starting from a fur coat company, to Fendi, car sales and real estate.
  • Office location: Warwick

Why did you get into the real estate industry?
It was actually accidental, in search of better opportunities I started working for a rental agency in Fort Lee NJ, the broker was very supportive and saw something in me, eventually pushing me to get my license and the rest is history. Other than a well raised child I don’t know of a better reward than a gratitude of a happy homeowner, especially a first time homeowner, gets me every time.

Why did you choose to become a Coach?
I think I have reached the age where I really want to give back. Building my own success is very empowering and I think it would be a lot more enjoyable if I could share parts of my roadmap with others. I especially enjoy helping women gain their confidence, perhaps because it took me so long to gain my own. Also, I believe that helping someone else will keep me accountable and therefore a better agent.

Why did you choose to become a Coach?
Beginning a business as an agent can be overwhelming. I’d like to be able to show a new agent how to get started with some basic pointers and build from there, essentially explaining the steps from working with someone they know or 1st point of contact through to closing.

Valerie Girouard

About Valerie

Valerie Girouard

I hope to help new agents understand the real reason they should be a realtor – it’s all about helping people.

  • Year first licensed in Real Estate: 1989
  • Prior occupation: Teacher (junior high and high school) Managed a surgical practice for a doctor.
  • Educational accomplishments: Bachelor of Arts in secondary education
  • Awards/recognitions received:
    • Multi Diamond Awards from NRIBOR
    • Ruby Masters from Century 21
    • Occasional monthly award recognition through HomeSmart
    • Multi million dollar production awards HomeSmart
  • Office location: Warwick

Personal and/or professional accomplishments:
I enjoy all the relationships I’ve made working with buyers and sellers over the years and consider these my most treasured professional accomplishments.

On a personal level, I was able to get the Oprah Winfrey show to invite my cousin and me to her show, based on a letter I wrote about my cousin. I also enabled my cousin to win the Jefferson Award from WJAR based on another letter of recommendation I wrote about her. I enabled my mom to win Mother of the Year, based on a letter I wrote about her and her good deeds. I am proud to say I took her to live with me for the last 10 years of her life, and I know she appreciated that. My most important personal accomplishment was raising 3 awesome humans on my own after my divorce.

Why did you get into the real estate industry?
When I bought my first house, I was completely underwhelmed with the realtors I saw houses with, which led me to believe that it was an easy job. I had 3 small children and felt I could easily work around their school and activity schedules. I believe most newly licensed agents, in their naivete, say they got into real estate because they love seeing houses, and I admit, that was a real draw for me as well.

Why did you choose to become a Coach?
Over the years I’ve come to realize that agents do not sell houses – houses sell themselves. What agents do is counsel, advise, and guide the clients. We are their source of education, helping them to plan and make decisions that best fit their needs. We listen to them, we laugh with them, sometimes we cry with them, and for the stretch of time that we get to spend with them, we fall completely in love with them! (Most of them!) When it’s all over, we say goodbye, wish them well, and miss them and the daily contact, but we stay in touch with them. These relationships are precious and I hope to help new agents understand the real reason they should be a realtor – it’s all about helping people.

Elyse Gesmondi

About Elyse

  • Year acquired Real Estate license: 2002
  • Prior occupation: Educator and corporate trainer
  • Office location: Smithfield

Personal and/or professional accomplishments:
Professionally, I have been a multi-million dollar producer for almost every year that I have been selling real estate. I am a five-star professional in Rhode Island five years in a row. I have bought and sold millions of dollars of real estate in my career. I pride myself on treating my clients like family and trying to make every client feel like they are my only one. Service is my main focus.

Personally, I have grown my business through times of trials and tribulations and still found myself on top. I have two children and a loving talented husband. Together we built our own home with our own hands. Physically, emotionally, and mentally it was one of the hardest and coolest things I’ve ever done. I learned more about myself, my business, and my product than I could’ve learned in tens of transactions and it only makes me a better Realtor®.

Why did you get into the real estate industry?
I started the business in 2002. I had been teaching sales for several years. My mom was struck ill which forced me to come back to RI. I needed a more flexible schedule to be there for my mom and to be able to fund my lifestyle at the same time. I had been buying and selling real estate since I was 20 years old personally and decided that I would utilize my personal experience and my professional experience as a sales trainer and combine them into something I love to do. I have never looked back.

Why did you choose to become a Coach?
My drive to be a mentor is my need to teach. Selfishly, I do my best when I am able to help someone else grow their business. Simultaneously, my business does better because of them. So it’s a mutually beneficial situation. My years of experience as a salesperson and the idiosyncrasies of the transactions that I have seen in my lifetime, make me a great person to be there for advice.

Service is my main focus.

Why did you choose to become a Coach?
I launched my real estate career with HomeSmart Professionals! I too started as a brand new Realtor and completed the mentorship program here at Home Smart. I truly value the program and completely understand how important it is, as a brand new Realtor, to have a mentor by your side to guide you through the processes. Having a seasoned Realtor by my side gave me the confidence and knowledge to put myself out there to obtain new business and launch my career! I have much gratitude towards Dean and this program, I look forward to paying it forward!
